Work Injury Care / FCE

East Northport Physical Therapy

Forceful, prolonged, or repetitive motions with the hands or arms, frequent or heavy lifting, moving or carrying heavy objects, and awkward postures can all contribute to work injuries. Work conditions that combine these risk factors increase the risk for musculoskeletal injuries. The level of risk depends on how long you’re exposed to these conditions, how often you are exposed, and your level of exposure.

At East Northport Physical Therapy in South Huntington and East Northport, New York, we offer complete physical therapy evaluation, treatment, and functional capacity evaluations (FCE) for workers’ compensation cases, and we help workers prevent accidents on the job.

How East Northport Physical Therapy Can Help

People at work can injure their hands, wrists, elbows, shoulders, back, knees, ankles, and feet during any number of job-related activities. Our physical therapists are experts at treating work-related injuries such as:

  • Spine disorders – particularly in the heavy-machinery industries
  • Cumulative trauma from repetitive motions, which causes carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis
  • Musculoskeletal disorders that can cause severe, often debilitating symptoms such as pain, numbness, and tingling

Comprehensive Evaluation and Treatment

At East Northport Physical Therapy, patient care for the injured employee begins with an extensive physical therapy evaluation. We develop treatment programs customized to each injured worker's needs. We have the training, credentials, and ability to resolve work-related injuries.

Our work injury care program includes:

  • Functional capacity evaluations (FCE) that feature a systematic process for assessing individual physical functional abilities. The FCE matches individual performance levels to the demands of a specific job, work activity, or occupation. The FCE establishes the physical level of work an individual can perform. It also helps in determining job placement, job accommodation, or return to work after an injury or illness.
  • Affiliation with the Isernhagen® WorkWell FCE program. This program is designed to help bring about pain relief and return to function for the injured employee through physical therapy. The WorkWell case manager coordinates necessary treatment to ensure continuity of care for the injured employee.
  • Treatment plans for resolving a work injury that are based on the individual’s needs and work situation. The goal of our customized therapy is to improve a worker’s ability to perform work tasks safely while reducing pain and increasing mobility.
  • Focus on prevention. We consider how the work environment might affect the susceptibility to injury and make recommendations based specifically on individual workplace ergonomic needs.
